point6 socks selected for Himilayan Expedition

Point6 socks are the sock of choice for a five member climbing team that is attempting to summit the fifth highest peak in the world:  Makalu, with an elevation of 27,765 feet.  Local Steamboat Springs Anesthesiologist, Eric Meyer, is a member of the expedition.  Point6 is thrilled to have been selected for the important job of protecting the feet of these climbers.

Wilderness Risk Management Conference

Wilderness Risk Management Conference

For the second year in a row, point6 has supported the Wilderness Risk Management Conference by donating point6 merino wool socks to this influential gathering out outdoor professionals.  Wearing wool in the backcountry is the best choice of fiber.  Wool can perform in the fluctuating weather conditions, insulating when wet and preventing the chill that occurs when a synthetic or cotton fiber gets wet.  One other amazing benefit of wool is that you can wear it for days or weeks at a time and it will continue to perform great and not smell!  Amazing!

point6 at mile 79 of the Wasatch Trail 100

"In 30 years of running trails, roads, and lots of hiking I have never found better socks than Point 6.  They keep my feet dry which equals no blisters.  I have worn the ones with toes, cushion, thin, thick, etc. Nothing comes close.

Keep up the great work."

Thanks for the support, Larry!

Outdoor Retailer Show

Outdoor Retailer Show

point6 attended our first Summer Outdoor Retailer Market in July.  This industry show is the leading showcase for all new outdoor companies.  The response to point6 from US and Canadian retailers was fantastic!   Consumers will be able to purchase our socks at retail locations in September, so keep watching for our dealer locator to go live on the website.

Thanks for all the support during our first year of business.  We greatly appreciate it.

Tour de Course

Tour de Course
This is the latest blog post from new point6 fans and ambassadors Karen Catchpole and Eric Mohl, who are on a multi-year, multi-America road trip adventure called the Trans-Americas Journey.

We're not really group tour people, preferring to spend our time working out independent adventures for ourselves rather than spending our time with a bunch of strangers lead by someone who probably knows less about what we're doing and seeing than we do.

However, there are some adventures that even we concede require a guide-like zip-lining and waterfall rappelling in the coastal Mexican jungles of the Sierra Madre Occidental.  And so, last week, we found ourselves jostling around on the back of a Unimog with a dozen other travelers on our way to the Vallarta Adventures

http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/ Outdoor Adventure http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/outdoor-challange/index.html course just outside Puerto Vallarta.

The course includes eight zip lines up to 650 feet long and 250 feet off the ground adding up to three quarters of a mile of zip line. Then there are the four rappels, including one that drops 100 feet down the face of a waterfall and a free-fall rappel off a platform, Special Forces style. Did we mention the whole gig starts off with a speed boat ride before boarding the Unimog followed by a mule ride up to more than 2,000 feet before any of this high-altitude fun begins?

Adrenaline aside, the Outdoor Adventure trip also offers unprecedented safety features that meet or surpass the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) http://www.acctinfo.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=66 safety standards with features like daily line inspections, double lines and hardware on all zip lines and five accredited guides on every trip. With that many guides things could get gummed up, but the trip runs like a smoothly choreographed ballet. Not once were we bottle-necked, or loitering around on a zip line platform. There wasn't even enough down time to get nervous.

But what to wear for such an array of activities? Vallarta Adventures pretty much guarantees that Outdoor Adventure trip participants will get completely soaked so we consider wearing water sandals. However, the mule riding, hiking and rappelling portions seem to call for more foot support and protection so we rely, once again, on sneakers and our point6 men's hiking light cushion mini crews and women's hiking md cushion mini crews.

They've never let us down in dry conditions and they don't let us down in soaking wet ones either. Totally comfortable, totally warm (though the water is surprisingly chilly) and totally blister-free even slogging through the waterfalls, streams and trails of the jungle.

When the trip is over other travelers are taking off their soaked sneakers and literally throwing away their under-performing socks (mostly cotton, it must be noted). We happily ring out our point6 socks and put them in the sun to dry-which they do in record time because their wool, people! Ever seen a soggy sheep? We rest our case.
